AJ Christensen is a senior visualization designer for the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio (SVS), where he develops visualization techniques and designs data-driven imagery for scientific analysis and public outreach. SVS visualizations feature datasets from Earth-based and space-based instrument observations, scientific supercomputer models, and physical statistical distributions. AJ specializes in working with large 3D volumetric model data using the procedural cinematic software package Houdini, and creates visualizations of topics in Heliophysics, Earth Science, and Astronomy. He has previously worked for the National Center for Supercomputing Applications’ Advanced Visualization Lab where he made imagery for more than a dozen science documentary films, and for the visual effects company Double Negative on the movie “Interstellar”, which won the 2015 visual effects Academy Award. AJ's graduate research was on informal science learning through digital media like films and video games.
