Dan’l serves as the customer liaison for the Science Managed Cloud Environment (SMCE). He aids with identifying how new projects may be able to use the cloud, assess a project's expected cloud costs and facilitates their SMCE project creation. Dan'l also tracks project costs and works to identify ways to reduce costs. While having this overall role for the SMCE, Dan'l will also support high performance computing applications, or advanced scientific computing applications to efficiently transition to using cloud resources.
Dan'l has spent much of his career supporting advanced computing, with over 30 years of High Performance Computing (HPC) and Advanced Analytics experience in government and the private sector. He has served as an Associate Technical Fellow, Senior Manager and non-executive General Manager for The Boeing Company, Senior Vice-President for Chase Bank, World-Wide Lead for High Performance Computing Scientist for Intel, Director of Market and Business Development for Cray Inc., President and CEO of Access Analytics International, High Performance Computing Specialist for HP, and Director of Product Development and High Performance Computing Development for MSC Software and Deputy Program Manager for the NASA Center for Climate Simulation (NCCS).
Dan’l has two patents relating to data-mining and visualization of large collections of text documents, over a dozen publications in reviewed scientific journals. Dan’l has taught parallel computing, parallel programming and algorithm design, data mining, advanced numerical analysis, and linear algebra as a visiting and adjunct Professor at The University of Washington, Seattle University, and in Taiwan at National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Chiao Tung University.
