Natalia Buzulukova graduated from the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (MIPT) in 1997 with a degree in applied physics and mathematics. As a postgraduate student she studied nanotubes and fullerens in Moscow Institute of Biochemical Physics (1997-1998). In 1998, she moved to the Moscow Space Research Institute and started to work in the field of plasma physics and data analysis under supervision of Yuri Galperin. She obtained a PhD degree in 2003. In 2003-2007, she held postdoctoral position in Moscow Space Research Institute (IKI). In 2005, she got a fellowship from President Grant for Government Support of Young Russian Scientists of the Russian Federation. In May 2007, she was appointed the NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) and moved to NASA GSFC. At NASA GSFC, she began to work with models of the Earth ring current/plasmasphere and data analysis under supervision of Dr. M.-C. Fok and Dr. T. E. Moore. In 2008, she joined TWINS team where she extensively worked on modeling and interpretation of energetic neutral atom (ENA) emissions from the Earth's ring current and precipitating ions. She is co-developer of Comprehensive Inner-Magnetosphere Ionosphere (CIMI) model, a bounce-averaged kinetic model of the Earth's ring current, and also co-developer of coupled code CIMI-MHD BATSRUS/SWMF. Currently, Dr. Buzulukova’s scientific interests cover a broad range of topics, including magnetohydrodynamic modeling of the Earth’s magnetosphere, kinetic Particle-In-Cell simulations of the geomagnetic tail, bounce-averaged models of the Earth’s ring current, modeling of the Earth’s plasmasphere, modeling of energetic neutral atom emissions, modeling of the Earth’s radiation belts, and modeling of extreme geomagnetic storms for space weather applications. Dr. Buzulukova is experienced in working with satellite data sets, including ENA imagers IMAGE and TWINS. She served as an editor of "Extreme Events in Geospace: Origins, Predictability, and Consequences" published by Elsevier in 2018, and has authored or co-authored more than 30 publications in peer-reviewed journals related to the field. Currently she is PI of NASA LWS grant to study extreme space weather. She is also the team leader of International Space Science Institute (ISSI) team "Imaging the Invisible: Unveiling the Global Structure of Earth's Dynamic Magnetosphere" selected in 2021.
