Dr. Niama Boukachaba is an associate scientist working at the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO) at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. She is working on two different projects. The first project is focusing on the enhancement of the use of hyperspectral IR radiances, such as CrIS and IASI, in the NASA GEOS data assimilation system through enhanced data selection techniques, error modeling, and data sampling. Update implementation of CrIS and other JPSS measurements in GEOS systems and examine impacts on analysis quality and long-term stability using the GMAO’s present hybrid 4D-ensemble-variational data assimilation framework. The second project involves defining an optimal comprehensive cloud-clearing strategy for AIRS, CrIS and IASI with the ultimate goal of assimilating adaptively thinned cloud-cleared hyperspectral data. Both these projects are aimed at enhancing GMAO’s emergent capabilities in data assimilation and contributing to existing projects and research.
